Speaker Mudashiru Obasa Impeached by Lagos State House of Assembly Member

On Monday, the Lagos State House of Assembly voted to remove Speaker Mudashiru Obasa from his position, citing several financial and statutory violations. Deputy Speaker Lasbat Meranda, representing Apapa Constituency 1 and formerly the House’s chief whip, has been appointed as the new Speaker.

 

This decision follows reports of Obasa’s involvement in the withdrawal of N43.5 billion for backup vehicles for lawmakers, along with other contentious activities.

 

The Assembly members accused Obasa of multiple statutory and financial infractions and have officially replaced him with Deputy Speaker Lasbat Meranda.

 

Meranda, who serves Apapa Constituency 1, also has experience as the chief whip of the House.
