FIFA World Cup compared India ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma with football legend Lionel Messi on his 38th birthday. India opener Rohit Sharma turned 38 on Wednesday, April 30, marking another year in a career that has witnessed some unmatched highs and traumatic lows, yet remains one of the greatest stories in Indian cricket.

FIFA World Cup took their Instagram to share a picture where India captain Rohit Sharma is going to collect the T20 World Cup just like Argentina captain Lionel Messi got to collect the FIFA World Cup defeating Brazil in the final in Qatar. Here is the photo.

Rohit made his international debut on June 23 in 2007, where he displayed immense potential and versatility with some impactful knocks during the 2007 T20 World Cup-winning campaign. Since then, Rohit has evolved into one of the bravest openers of all time.

Rohit made his Test debut in 2013 and since his debut, he scored 4,301 runs in 67 Tests and 116 innings, averaging 40.57, with 12 centuries and 18 fifties, and his best score being 212. He is India’s leading run-getter in the ICC World Test Championship (WTC), with 2,716 runs at an average of 41.15 in 40 Tests, with nine centuries and eight fifties in 69 innings.
Rohit is currently India’s fourth-highest run-getter in ODIS and 10 overall. Under Rohit’s ODI captaincy, India won the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 and a runners-up finish in the 2023 50-over World Cup at home after a 10-match win streak. He has won 42 out of 56 matches he has led India in ODI, losing just 12, tying one, and one being a no result.
Rohit who has already announced retirement from the shortest format of the game also led India to a T20 World Cup win in 2024. Rohit Sharma-led India remained unbeaten throughout the tournament and clinched the title defeating South Africa in the final in Barbados. 
Rohit is currently featuring in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025, he is one of the best captain to lead a franchise in cash-richg league. MI won five IPL titles under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy, which isthe  joint-most by any franchise in the history of the tournament.
