Murtala Muhammed Area Command Reports 99.89% Increase in Revenue for 2024

The Controller of Murtala Muhammed Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, Comptroller Michael Toyin Awe, has released the 2024 scorecard, providing a comprehensive overview of the command’s performance, commitment to enforcing customs laws, facilitating trade, and maintaining the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

 

Revenue

The Controller revealed that the command achieved a significant milestone in revenue generation, amounting to ₦180,750,786,844.36 in 2024, compared to ₦90,426,185,447.01 in 2023. This represents an increase of ₦90,324,601,397.35, or a 99.89% rise. The revenue target for 2024 was ₦179,739,241,526.36, and the command exceeded this target by generating an additional ₦1,011,545,282.00, reflecting a 0.56% increase for the entire year. This achievement demonstrates the command’s dedication to excellence and commitment to enforcing government fiscal policies.

 

Anti-Smuggling

In its relentless pursuit of safeguarding the nation and protecting citizens against illicit trade, the command made notable seizures, including:

– 21 packages of 225mg Tramadol Hydrochloride

– 50 rounds of 9mm live ammunition

– 54 packages of military hardware

– 46 packages of dried sea cucumber

– 3 packages of dried donkey male genitals

– 55 pieces of Jojef Tomahawk semi-automatic rifles

– 50 packages of dried Canadian cannabis

– 225 pieces of drones

– 250 pieces of turtles

– 1 package of pangolin skin

– 1 package of porcupine thorns and mineral stones

 

These seized items have a cumulative Duty-Paid Value (DPV) of ₦10,511,889,799. These seizures underscore the command’s dedication to enforcing customs laws and regulations.

The Controller highlighted that the command maintained an open-door policy, engaging with stakeholders, sister agencies, and the media to address common interests. This collaborative approach has been key to the command’s success, and the support and cooperation from stakeholders have been greatly appreciated.
