AbbyPD aware of online social media post claiming acts of violence will occur today – Fraser Valley Today

ABBOTSFORD — A spokesperson for the Abbotsford Police Department says police are aware of an email and/or social media posts claiming that acts of violence will occur at targeted schools in Abbotsford today (Monday, April 7).
According to a statement from AbbyPD Sgt. Paul Walker, police in Abbotsford responded to multiple “swatting” calls throughout the city that falsely claimed violence was occurring and people were in danger. Police say each call was assessed and responded to by AbbyPD, and all were determined to be false.
AbbyPD says it is today’s claimed threat of violence “seriously” and is currently investigating the origin of the messages. Currently, there is no information to suggest that this threat is real, and investigators believe this incident is yet another swatting attempt.
A post began circulating widely on social media Sunday night in which a person claimed they would commit one of the most “violent attacks in the history of Abbotsford.”
“I will be targeting each and every school listed in this email,” the email claimed. “I will be armed with an AR-15 that I have gotten snuck into from the US as well as many other firearms. I have also placed multiple devices around each and every school included in this email that will go off accordingly.”
The individual also claimed they would livestream the insidious attack on platforms like Rumble, Kick, Twitch, Facebook and Instagram Live.
The Abbotsford Police Department says it remains committed to ensuring the safety of the community. If any new information about student safety comes to AbbyPD’s attention, the AbbyPD says it will notify the public.
The AbbyPD police file is 25-14181.
