Police Operatives Recover 191 Prohibited Firearms, 4,255 Rounds of Live Ammunition, Arrest 63 Suspects in Crackdown on Gunrunning and Firearm Proliferation

In its ongoing efforts to enhance national security and combat organized crime, the Nigeria Police Force has made significant strides in addressing gunrunning and curbing the spread of prohibited firearms and ammunition across the country.

 

One of these notable achievements is the arrest of eight suspects from a gunrunning syndicate operating within Plateau State and its surroundings. The suspects, identified as Joseph Tara, Victor Ali Pam, Abua Yusuf, Bako Isa, Salamatu Iliya, Solomon Gbarale, Musa Arine, and Bitrus Chung, were apprehended after credible intelligence led operatives of the FID-IRT to the first suspect.

 

This subsequently led to the discovery of a large cache of arms concealed inside a vehicle doormat belonging to the syndicate. The exhibits recovered during this operation include 12 rounds of 7.88mm live ammunition, eight fabricated AK47 rifles, four fabricated revolver guns, four fabricated semi-automatic pistols, 11 AK47 magazines, and 1,105 rounds of live AK47 ammunition.

 

Additionally, operatives of the FID-IRT arrested Amos Sunday Gyang in Plateau State for possessing a semi-automatic pistol, which he claimed to have found hidden inside a cushion in a rented apartment.

 

The suspect failed to report the discovery to the relevant authorities or surrender the weapon, opting instead to keep it for undisclosed purposes. The public is reminded that it is illegal to possess a weapon without proper licensing. In cases of weapon discovery, citizens are urged to notify the police to avoid any legal complications.
