The Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), KN Nandap, has appointed Assistant Comptroller of Immigration AS Akinlabi as the new Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO).

This appointment follows the redeployment of the previous SPRO, Deputy Comptroller of Immigration KT Udo, to the position of Passport Control Officer at the Akwa Ibom State Command. The announcement was made in a statement signed by Principal Staff Officer to the Comptroller General, CIS AA Aridegbe, and shared with the National Association of Online Security News Publishers (NAOSNP).

ACI Akinlabi, a native of Ibarapa Central Local Government Area in Oyo State, is a distinguished fellow of the Chartered Institute of Corporate Administration of Nigeria. He holds a BSc in Accounting from the University of Ilorin and a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, obtained in 2003 and 2015, respectively.

Enlisted into the Nigeria Immigration Service on December 29, 2006, Akinlabi completed his Superintendent Basic Course at the Immigration Training School, Kano, in December 2007. He has participated in numerous specialized courses in migration, security, and border management.

Since January 2008, Akinlabi has served at the Service Headquarters, gaining extensive experience across various directorates, including Accounts and Finance, Protocol, Training and Staff Development, and Passport and other Travel Documents. Notably, he was among the pioneer staff of the then newly established NIS Contact Centre, where he served meritoriously and eventually became Second-in-Command (2 I/C) at the SERVICOM Unit, directly involved in public relations activities.

Before his recent appointment, ACI Akinlabi concluded his assignment as an Immigration Attaché at the Embassy of Nigeria in The Hague, Kingdom of the Netherlands. His appointment as the Service Public Relations Officer takes immediate effect, and he is expected to leverage his wealth of experience to enhance the Service’s image.
